In the later models the addition of emission controls added a new level of complexity.
Carburetor systems became very complex in the Shadow/Bentley T era.
Several versions of Bosch mechanical and electronic fuel injection were fitted to Crewe-built motors from 1980 onward.The addition of engine driven hydraulic pumps in 1966 added a whole new system to maintain.
The arrival of turbocharging boosted performance and we started to see head gasket and top end failures for the first time. Those are much more common today.
The Rolls-Royce and Bentley 6.2 pushrod V8 engine was designed and built by the engineers in Crewe. It went into production in 1958 and a derivative remains in production as of 2018.
